Types of Steel Plates used in Constructions

Steel plates are probably the most common type of steel that is used everywhere. Steel plates are essentially metal slabs that come in a variety of thicknesses. These plates have a variety of properties, including the ability to withstand high temperatures, high impact, and strong substances. This creates a more secure surface for various industrial locations and equipment. Depending on the application and industry, the appropriate steel plate should be chosen.

Steel plates that are commonly used in construction include:

  • Mild Steel Plates

Mild steel plates are most commonly used for construction and industrial purposes. They are easy to weld, because of which creating structures and sections are very easy. They can easily be cut and bent into various shapes, which makes it easier to make different steel structures and equipment. Compared to other steel types, mild steel is very versatile and easy to handle, and this is why it is very popularly used in the construction industry

  • Checkered Plates

Standard steel plates that have raised angular patterns on their surface are called checkered plates. The angular plates increase the surface grip of the steel, making it easier to move around. With these plates, the skid and slippage experienced while moving items are reduced.

  • Galvanized Sheets

During the galvanization process, steel sections are immersed in molten zinc, forming a layer on the steel’s surface. This zinc layer adds strength to the material. Galvanized plates can also be molded into various shapes to create structures for various project requirements.

  • B.I and G.I. Sheets

B.I. and G.I. steel plates are also manufactured by the process of galvanization.  The additional protective layer increases their strength and resistance to various environments. These are carbon steel plates that have been zinc-coated on all sides. The steel is dipped into molten zinc once more, and this time electro-galvanizing is performed. An electric current is passed through the zinc that will be applied to the surface of the steel. These steel plates are used in environments with varying temperatures and strong substances.
